The WINNING STREAK HITS 7 IN PORTLAND

The Seattle Sounders beat the Portland Timbers 1-0 for their first victory in Oregon since 2014

The Sounders battled it out for 90 minutes securing the full three points after a 76th minute own goal from Timbers defender Julio Cascante. It marked the 7th straight victory for Seattle, tying an MLS record for consecutive wins set by Sporting Kansas City in 2012.

The moment

With Head Coach Brian Schmetzer swapping forward Will Bruin for defender Kelvin Leerdam in the 59th minute, the Sounders opted for a 5-3-2 formation. The change was rewarded less than 20 minutes later as defender Kim Kee-hee swept down the right flank before sliding home a dangerous cross resulting in the game-winning goal.

Above the Red line

For the first time in 2018 the Sounders climbed above the red line in the Western Conference as they sit in 5th place with 38 points and nine matches remaining.

Unbeaten in 10 and counting

The unbeaten streak lives on as the Sounders now turn their attention to Western Conference #2 Sporting Kansas City this Saturday, September 1 at CenturyLink Field.
