THE DEFENDING CHAMPS

The Seattle Sounders came into the 2017 MLS season as defending champions for the first time following their epic MLS Cup win over Toronto FC the previous December.

Summer streak

After a bit of a lull to begin the year, the Sounders went the entire summer unbeaten and catapulted up the Western Conference standings.

DEMPSEY DOES IT AGAIN

Clint Dempsey was the man for the big occasion again in Portland when his shorthanded equalizer in stoppage time revitalized Seattle's season.

FINISHING STRONG

Seattle ended the regular season on a 9-2-5 run to finish second in the West and earn a Knockout Round bye.

#DEFENDOURCUP

Seattle opened its playoff run in the Western Conference Semifinals against Cascadia rival the Vancouver Whitecaps.

HOME SWEET HOME

After a scoreless draw in Leg 1 in Vancouver, the Sounders downed their neighbors to the north 2-0 to advance to the Western Conference Championship.

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM

After having never won in Houston, the Sounders earned a massive 2-0 away win in Leg 1 of the conference finals against the surprise Dynamo.

WEST CHAMPS AGAIN

The Sounders never took their foot off the pedal as they cruised to an incredible 5-0 aggregate win over the Dynamo and their second straight Western Conference crown.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

The Sounders and Toronto FC met again at BMO Field in Ontario in a rematch of MLS Cup 2016.

JUST SHORT

Seattle's quest to repeat as champions came up one match short as the Sounders fell to TFC 2-0. The 2017 season capped the most successful two-year run in the club's MLS history.
