Introducing The Bruce Lee Kit

In 2023, the 50th anniversary of his untimely death and his final world-renowned film, Enter the Dragon, Sounders FC is celebrating the life and legacy of Bruce Lee with a community kit. Inspired by his lasting impact, The Bruce Lee Kit honors his philosophies and values, which are shared by our club and our city.

The sunbeam yellow accents symbolize “the center of everything” and are associated with nature, balance, and heroism. The hand-drawn dragon design emblazoned across the jersey represents strength and power. Bruce’s official signature stamps the bottom of each jersey, including the dragon (loong) symbol.

The back of the neck features Bruce Lee's Core Symbol, an insignia created by Bruce as a representation of his martial art form, Jeet Kune Do, and his personal philosophy. Encircling the Yin Yang symbol are two opposing directional arrows and characters for Bruce Lee’s famous quote: “Using no way as way; having no limitation as limitation.”

HARMONY

Bruce’s approach to life blended tradition and innovation, a balance that reflects his core philosophy of harmony. He was profoundly influenced by the principles of Yin Yang. Bruce was a martial artist and philosopher, and through that duality he became an international star who broke the mold and redefined the film industry. Harmony lies at the core of Seattle’s identity: We find equilibrium in pristine natural beauty and urban bustle; history and progress; rays of sunshine and drops of rain. As a club, we’ve grown globally by deepening our roots locally.

SELF-EXPRESSION

Bruce believed that to become one’s true self, they must chart their own path in life and in martial arts. Individual expression is critical to personal growth and enlightenment. Seattle is a symbol of self-expression and individuality. On the pitch, we blend coordinated movements with individual brilliance, weaving strategy with instinct.

“Always be yourself. Express yourself. Have faith in yourself.”

INCLUSION

Bruce believed in a universal approach to martial arts and life, one that transcended cultural and ethnic boundaries. He lived these values during his formative years in Seattle, teaching students from varied backgrounds and diverse cultures.

That commitment to inclusion lives on in our community. It’s in our DNA. We break down barriers and fight for what’s right. We strive to emulate Bruce by acting in support of tolerance and justice.

ACTION

Whether in films or in life, Bruce embodied the power of action. He viewed action to breathe life into his philosophies and preached the importance of achieving one’s goals.

In celebration of the life and legacy of Bruce Lee, Sounders FC will donate proceeds from the first 30 days of The Bruce Lee Kit sales (up to $50,000) to the Bruce Lee Foundation and Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience to collaborate on impact programming.
